Prime Minister Modi Addresses Voters, Promises Development and Statehood
The final phase of elections in Jammu and Kashmir is set, with over 39 lakh voters ready to decide the fate of 415 candidates. Prime Minister Modi promises development and statehood in a recent rally.
Jammu & Kashmir Gears Up for the Last Phase of Assembly Elections
Jammu and Kashmir is gearing up for the final phase of its assembly elections, with over 39 lakh voters set to make their voices heard. Voting will take place in 40 assembly constituencies across several districts, including Jammu, Samba, Kathua, and Udhampur in the Jammu division, as well as Baramulla and Kupwara in the Valley. This crucial phase will determine the political landscape of the region.
Prime Minister Modi’s Campaign Rally
Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a large rally at M.A. Stadium in Jammu, highlighting the importance of these elections. He referenced the 2016 surgical strike, saying it showcased a new India capable of striking at the heart of its enemies. “The enemy knows that if they do anything serious, then Modi will hit them deep inside their country,” he reiterated. This strong rhetoric aimed to instill confidence among voters regarding national security.
Modi criticized the opposition, particularly the Congress party, for questioning the surgical strikes and accused them of neglecting the needs of the armed forces. He stated, “People will never pardon Congress for seeking proof of surgical strikes.” He emphasized that the BJP government prioritizes the welfare of defense forces, highlighting initiatives like the one-rank-one pension scheme.
A Call for Change
During the rally, Modi expressed the urgency for change in Jammu and Kashmir. He asserted that the people are tired of the rule by three families—the National Conference (NC), People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and Congress. “The people want peace and a better future for their children. This is why they are turning towards a BJP government,” he said.
He noted the historical discrimination faced by the people of Jammu and assured them that a BJP government would rectify these injustices. “Jammu has suffered gross discrimination, and we will remove that,” he declared. Modi encouraged voters to take advantage of this opportunity, reminding them of the potential for a government that reflects their choices.
Development Promises and Community Representation
Modi made several promises regarding development. He assured the community that under the BJP, electricity tariffs would be reduced to zero and healthcare would become more accessible through initiatives like the Golden Card scheme. He also pointed out that new industries would bring prosperity and job opportunities for local youth.
“The BJP has given voting rights to PoK refugees, Valmiki, and Gorkha communities. These people have made great contributions to J&K’s development,” he said. He emphasized that these communities now have political representation and that their voices matter.
Upcoming Voting and Assembly Composition
Voting for the last phase will occur on October 1, with results scheduled to be announced on October 8. Jammu district holds 11 seats, Kathua has 6, Samba contains 3, and Udhampur has 4 seats in contention. Following recent delimitation, J&K has 90 assembly seats in total—47 in the Kashmir division and 43 in the Jammu division.
The Prime Minister raised his hands in victory anticipation, urging voters to elect BJP candidates to the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly. His remarks aimed to rally support as the region stands on the brink of significant political change.
