The Universal Chronicle Cookies Policy
Cookie & Interest-Based Advertising (IBA) Statement
This Cookie & Interest-Based Advertising (IBA) Statement supplements our Privacy Statement and specifically explains how The Universal Chronicle and our third-party business partners deploy cookies and other tracking technologies (“Tracking Technologies”), including for interest-based advertising (IBA), as well as the options you have to control them.
What are Cookies and Other Tracking Technologies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device to store data about your interactions with our website. Other Tracking Technologies include web beacons, tags, pixels, and embedded scripts, which temporarily download code to remember information about your use of our site. These technologies are used to identify users, remember preferences, track browsing activities, perform analytics, and deliver targeted advertising based on online behavior.
Tracking Technologies can be set by us (“first-party trackers”) or by our third-party business partners, such as social media networks, advertising networks, and content providers (“third-party trackers”). They can either:
- Session Trackers: Remain active for the duration of your visit and are deleted once you leave.
- Persistent Trackers: Remain on your device for multiple visits.
Why Do We Use Cookies and Other Tracking Technologies?
We use Tracking Technologies to:
- Provide and enhance our Services, including user registration and log-in.
- Personalize content and ensure a quality experience.
- Analyze usage and interactions with our content, including email communications.
- Deliver and measure advertising, including IBA, and improve ad relevance.
- Collect information about online activities across devices and third-party websites.
How Can You Control the Use of Tracking Technologies?
You can manage or restrict cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to modify cookie settings or delete existing cookies. For Flash cookies, use Adobe Flash’s management tools. Additionally, you can opt out of Google Analytics using Google’s opt-out browser add-on.
You might also encounter a cookie banner on some of our Services, allowing you to manage cookie preferences. Note that you cannot disable essential cookies required for the basic functionality of our Services.
Be aware that disabling all cookies or Tracking Technologies may affect the performance of our Services.
Do We Honor “Do Not Track” Signals?
We generally do not respond to web browser “do not track” signals. However, some of our third-party partners may honor these signals.
What is Interest-Based Advertising (IBA)?
Interest-Based Advertising (IBA) involves delivering personalized ads based on your interests and online activities. IBA may include analytics related to advertisements such as measurement, segmentation, and market research.
We may use Tracking Technologies and information from your interactions with our Services to deliver IBA. We also collaborate with third-party partners who may deploy their own Tracking Technologies on our Services, potentially collecting your IP address, browser information, and other data.
Third-party partners may use or share additional data about you to enhance ad targeting. We do not control these third parties’ practices, so please refer to their privacy policies for more information.
How Can You Opt Out of IBA?
You can opt out of IBA through the following options:
- Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA): Use the DAA Opt-Out Tool to manage your preferences.
- Network Advertising Initiative (NAI): Use the NAI Opt-Out Tool and, for EU/EEA users, the NAI EU Opt-Out Tool.
- Device Settings: You can limit advertising or reset the advertising identifier on your mobile device. Refer to your device’s manufacturer for specific instructions.
Some of our Services may offer “Do not sell my personal information” or similar options to manage your data under local privacy laws.
Note that opting out of IBA will not stop all advertisements but will prevent them from being tailored to your interests.
