Lara Trump Dismisses Donald Trump’s Comments on Kamala Harris as ‘Jokes’

Lara Trump defends Donald Trump’s remarks on Kamala Harris, calling them “joking around” at rallies. Read more on her take and the upcoming vice-presidential debate.

Lara Trump, co-chair of the Republican National Committee and daughter-in-law to former President Donald Trump, has brushed off her father-in-law’s recent attacks on Vice President Kamala Harris. During a recent interview with NBC News, she suggested that Donald Trump’s remarks were merely playful banter aimed at rally crowds.

When asked about Donald Trump calling Harris “mentally incompetent” and referring to Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as a “moron,” Lara Trump said, “This is Donald Trump, and he has never tried to make himself out to be anyone other than who he is.” She continued, “Obviously, he’s kind of joking around there with the crowd at a Trump rally when he says those things.”

Donald Trump’s Rally Remarks

Donald Trump’s comments at his Georgia rally last week caught attention as he told supporters that Kamala Harris suffers from “bigger cognitive problems” than President Joe Biden. He claimed that global leaders are laughing at the United States, specifically at the thought of Harris potentially becoming president.

“They can’t believe she’s really going to be president,” Trump said. “You talk about cognitive problems? She has bigger cognitive problems than he has, in my opinion.”

Such comments were not an isolated incident. Earlier, Trump called Governor Tim Walz, who is facing Republican vice-presidential nominee JD Vance in a debate, a “moron.” He stated during a Fox Nation interview, “How she picked him is unbelievable. There’s something wrong with that guy.”

Vice Presidential Debate and Lara Trump’s Thoughts

The focus on the vice presidential race has only intensified with Trump’s rhetoric. Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Republican candidate JD Vance are set to square off in their debate, which will be moderated by CBS’s Norah O’Donnell and Margaret Brennan. Each candidate will have two minutes to respond to questions.

Lara Trump shared her thoughts on the upcoming debate, predicting that Vance will press Walz hard on the Biden-Harris administration’s record, particularly on the economy and immigration.

“He probably will ask, if there are so many things that you and Kamala Harris say you want to get done, why haven’t they been accomplished in three and a half years?” Lara said. She added that these topics are top issues for the American people and could be central to the debate.

Concerns About a Kamala Harris Presidency

Lara Trump has been vocal in the past about her concerns over Kamala Harris possibly becoming president. She has warned that a Harris administration could bring about a recession and even World War III. In her comments, she often points to what she views as the failings of the current administration.

She didn’t shy away from addressing these concerns again during the NBC interview, suggesting that the Democratic Party is likely worried about losing control of the Senate. When pressed about her father-in-law’s remarks, she flipped the narrative, asking, “What the heck has been going on in that White House?”

Context of Trump’s Criticism

Donald Trump’s attacks on Harris have been a frequent theme during his rallies, often framing her as a threat to the country’s future. His statements have garnered both criticism and support from various political circles. Some view his comments as over-the-top, while others see them as typical Trumpian banter meant to energize his base.

Regardless of the controversy surrounding these remarks, they play into the larger narrative of Trump’s attempt to discredit the Biden-Harris administration ahead of the 2024 election. Trump continues to position himself as the candidate who can bring change, often using sharp language to describe his opponents.
