“You’re Very, Very Welcome”: UK PM Keir Starmer Hosts Zelensky After Trump Clash

London Shows Strong Support for Ukraine

London: UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer warmly welcomed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to Downing Street on Saturday, reaffirming Britain’s unwavering support for Ukraine—a day after Zelensky’s tense meeting with former US President Donald Trump.

“You’re very, very welcome here in Downing Street,” Starmer told Zelensky. “As you’ve heard from the cheers outside, you have full backing across the United Kingdom. We stand with Ukraine for as long as it takes.”

Commitment to Ukraine’s Sovereignty

Starmer emphasized that both leaders were committed to securing “a lasting peace for Ukraine, based on sovereignty and security”, calling it crucial for both Europe and the UK.

Zelensky acknowledged the overwhelming support he witnessed in London, stating, “I want to thank the people of the United Kingdom for such big support from the very beginning of this war.”

Meeting with King Charles

Zelensky also revealed that he would meet King Charles III on Sunday, calling it a significant moment for Ukraine. “We are very happy that His Majesty the King accepted my meeting tomorrow. We count on your support,” he said.

Diplomatic Tensions After Trump Meeting

The meeting in London comes just a day after Zelensky’s heated exchange with Donald Trump in Washington, D.C., where the former US president reportedly suggested that Ukraine should negotiate peace with Russia—a stance that contrasts sharply with NATO allies.

With Britain reaffirming its steadfast commitment, Zelensky’s visit highlights London’s key role as a strategic partner in Ukraine’s ongoing fight against Russian aggression.
